This tutorial will introduce the common operations of GeOnAS briefly, including Project Management, Data Management and Display Control, Map Operation and Data Analysis. It helps you to learn how to use GeOnAS quickly.

1         Project Management

1.1           Create Project

To create new project, select menu File and click New Project or click  in the Toolbar to open New Project window. In this window:

  • State: Name of state. You can specify state name by clicking the drop down list.
  • County, City, etc: Name of county, city. You can select the county name from the county list of state specified above.
  • Country: Name or abbreviation of country.
  • CRS: Name of spatial reference system.
  • W, S, E, N: Minx, Miny, Maxx and Maxy of geospatial bounding box.
  • Project Name: Name of new project, this project will be saved as a file with an extension of “.wmc”.

Click  to finish setting new project.

1.2           Add Raster Data

After creating new project, you can add data to the project by clicking  in the Toolbar. You can specify data type, Raster or Vector, in the GeoSpatial Data Selection window.

Chooses Raster type, then click . Raster Dataset Selection window will be got. You can specify service(s), temporal properties and other attributes in this window. After setting the properties for data selection, click  to send query request to database server, and datasets in the database, which meet the query conditions within the bounding box of the project will be shown.

You could go to other page to select dataset(s) by specifying page number in  and clicking . You also could select all datasets or none in the current page by clicking  or  at the bottom of the window. You could learn which dataset(s) has (have) been selected by clicking  at the bottom of the window. Finish dataset selection by clicking  at the bottom of the window.

The selection dataset(s) will be displayed.  You also could deselect the selected dataset by clicking its checkbox at the right. After determining the selected dataset(s), click  to submit data request. If the selected raster dataset(s) is/are added to the project and rendered successfully, it/they will be shown in the Map Panel.

1.3           Add Vector Data

Chooses Vector type, then click  in the Choose Data Type window. Input WFS URL window will be shown. You can input URL of any WFS server, and click .

Feature datasets in the specified WFS server, which are intersected with the bounding box of the current project, will be shown. You could select all feature datasets or none in the current page by clicking  or . Finish dataset selection and submit feature dataset request by clicking .

If the selected feature dataset(s) is/are added to the project and rendered successfully, it/they will be shown in Map Panel.

1.4           Open Project

To open an existing project file in your local disk, select menu File and click Open Project or click  in the Toolbar to open Load Project window.

Click  to open File Upload dialog, and browse to the project file (.wmc), then click  to select this file being uploaded. Click  to upload the project file. If the project file is correct, the following window will be shown, click  to open this file. If the datasets included in this project file are opened successfully, the project content will be shown.

1.5           Save Project

To save new project or some modifications in the current project, select menu File and click Save Project or click  in the Toolbar to open Save Project window. You could input some contact and metadata information relevant to current project.

After inputting information related to the project, click  to submit. Save Project window will be shown. Click  to save the project file to local disk.

2         Data Management and Display Control

2.1           Add Layer

You could also add layers to the project by clicking  on the toolbar under the Data Tree.

2.2           Remove Layer

You could remove the layers in the current project by selecting the layer in the Data Tree and clicking  on the toolbar.

2.3           Export Data

You could export the selected dataset in the current project to local disk by clicking  on the toolbar under the Data Tree. Export Dataset window will be shown.

2.4           Export Image

You could export image of the selected dataset in the current project to local disk by clicking  on the toolbar under the Data Tree. Export Image window will be shown.

2.5           Properties

You could query properties of the selected dataset by clicking  on the toolbar under the Data Tree. Properties window will be shown.

2.6           Bring to Front

You could bring the selected layer to the top of all layers displayed in the Map Panel by clicking  on the toolbar under the Data Tree.

2.7           Bring Forward

You could bring the selected layer upward in the layers displayed in the Map Panel by clicking  on the toolbar under the Data Tree.

2.8           Send Backward

You could send the selected layer downward in the layers displayed in the Map Panel by clicking  on the toolbar under the Data Tree.

2.9           Send to Back

You could bring the selected layer to the bottom of all layers displayed in the Map Panel by clicking  on the toolbar under the Data Tree.

2.10     Change Image Palette/Contrast

You could change the palette and contrast of the selected raster dataset by clicking button  on the toolbar under the Data Tree. The Change Palette/Contrast window will be shown. You could select the appropriate palette from the dropdown list, including Gray, GrayWave, Nature, Rainbow and Wave.

3         Map Operation

3.1           Zoom In

To Zoom In on the current map, select menu Map and click Zoom In or click  in the Toolbar. When mouse is moved in the Map Panel, the cursor will changed from  to , you can click the mouse at the position which will be the center of zoomed map, or drag a red rectangle. Before the result of zoom-in operation is shown, the Waiting picture will be displayed. Then, the result of zoom-in operation will display.

3.2           Zoom Out

To Zoom Out on the current map, select menu Map and click Zoom Out or click  in the Toolbar. When mouse is moved on the map, the cursor will be changed from  to , you can click the mouse at any position, the current map will be zoomed out. Similarly, the Waiting picture will be shown, then the result of zoom-out operation.

3.3           Zoom to Full Extent

To zoom the current map to full extent one, select menu Map and click Zoom to Full extent or click  in the Toolbar. Likewise, the Waiting picture will be shown, then the full extent map.
